Care at Home
Support for the days that are already full of meaning.
Practical support, shaped around the day. Personal Support Workers (PSWs) provide live-in support for older people across Nigeria.

These are the areas Upendo has confirmed. Awarding bodies, levels and refresher dates are discussed with the family. They are not listed here.

Both can be discussed. Talk through the needs, the support available, and any clinical involvement before arrangements are made. This page does not set a clinical protocol.
Matching
From enquiry to placement.
- 01Enquiry
A conversation about the day and what support may be needed. An enquiry does not reserve a placement.
- 02Home assessment
Upendo looks at the home and the routines that matter. Availability and a start date are discussed, not assumed.
- 03Agreement
Care arrangements are agreed before anyone moves in. Ask for the written terms, including notice.
- 04Matching and live-in placement
A Personal Support Worker (PSW) is matched for the agreed placement. Ask about the proposed match before care begins.
Questions
Before a live-in placement.
Confirm the arrangements for your family before care is agreed. Please do not use the enquiry form for emergencies or send health information through it.
What does live-in support mean, and is it 24-hour care?
A Personal Support Worker (PSW) stays in the client's home for the agreed live-in placement. Ask Upendo about working hours, rest breaks, overnight needs and off-duty cover. Do not assume that a live-in placement provides continuous waking care or round-the-clock cover.
How is a PSW matched with my family member?
The placement journey runs from an enquiry and home assessment to agreement, matching and live-in placement. Discuss needs and any preferences before care is agreed.
What do we need to arrange at home?
Ask which accommodation, meals and practical household arrangements are required. Clarify privacy, rest arrangements and each party's responsibilities before the placement starts.
What qualifications do your PSWs hold?
PSWs hold mandatory training in the five areas listed above. Discuss the training and experience relevant to your family member before agreeing the arrangements. Awarding bodies and levels are not listed here.
Is PSW support a substitute for medical treatment?
The everyday support described on this page is not a substitute for professional medical assessment or treatment. Medication administration is listed as a training qualification, not a promise that every medication task is included. For dementia or palliative care, discuss any clinical requirements separately.
Can I arrange support while living abroad?
Yes. Families abroad can enquire about support for a loved one across Nigeria. Ask who will coordinate communication, how updates will be shared, and what involvement is needed from family members in Nigeria.
What if the placement is not working well?
Raise your concerns with Upendo and ask which review, change or replacement options apply to the care agreement. Confirm arrangements and timescales rather than assuming an immediate replacement.
How much does a live-in placement cost?
Ask for a current quote and written clarification of the included support, assessment fees if any, payment terms and additional charges. A fixed rate is not published on this website.
How soon can a placement begin?
Ask about availability in your location and the proposed start date. An initial enquiry does not reserve a PSW or confirm a placement.
What if we need to change or end the arrangement?
Read the care agreement for the notice period, cancellation terms and any charges. Ask Upendo to explain these before committing or making a change. This page does not set a universal notice period.
